a mother petitions for custody from beyond the grave
Soul  Custody

"Give her to me," it said.

He gripped the tiny hand tighter, hoping she’d heard nothing.

"Owe Daddy!" cried the little girl. 

"Give her to me" demanded the voice.

He walked down the short pier.  Grayish blue water spread out before him.

"Give her to me," it hissed bitterly.  An uncontrolled sob escaped as he lifted the girl.

"Your mother is waiting," he whispered and lowered the screaming 3 year old into the cold, shadowy water.
She demanded both .Dutifully he returned to the car and quietly opened the door. Gently he scooped up the sleeping baby boy.
