Remembering the first responders on September 11
Place a single rose for each one who chose,
to go into the towers that day
to guide the wounded and the frightened out.

As we watched,
safe in our homes,
the twin towers crumbed into dust.

Place a single multicolored bloom,
as a token of your gratitude
upon the ground made sacred
by their sacrifice.

Remember,
that day 12 years ago
and the first responders
who did not return
to home and family.

Note about this poem: A single rose of any color signifies gratitude.
