this poem is about my premature baby girl, who was 6 weeks and one day early.

To My Emily, With Love

You started life too early,
and needed lots of care.
As I watch you growing,
you seem no worse for wear.

Reflecting on the times,
we were up through the night:
I sang nursery rhymes,
To help you feel all right.

Your car seat was my womb,
your first six weeks of life.
It made you feel all safe and snug,
and got you through the night.

I treasure all the times
you hug me "just because",
and say, "i love you, mommy."
It's all that I've dreamed of.

I love your personality,
it's what will get you far.
A burst of individuality,
one great big shining star!
