Within my tomb I rest in peace,
The Tomb

Within my tomb I rest in peace,
Thoughts of you have finally ceased.
No more tears of what could have been,
No more dreams of love to win.

There’s only darkness in the gloom,
No taste of pleasure, only doom.
Nowhere to go, no words to say,
No lips to kiss, too late to pray.

I hear the stillness of each night,
I see the darkness within the light.
I touch nothing for nothing’s there,
I’m all alone in this still air.

I hear voices, now and then,
Passing over like the wind.
None stop or pause to say hello.
None think of me down here below.

I often hope that you’ll stop by,
To say a prayer or breathe a sigh,
Perhaps a tear upon my grave,
Words that sometimes my touch you crave.

But your voice I never hear;
No whispered words upon my ear.
No soothing thoughts from up above,
No mention of abiding love.

My mother came again today,
On her knees she bent to pray.
She asked the Lord, "Please forgive my son,
For his indiscretions and this thing he’s done."

If I had it to do once more
This dreadful deed I would deplore.
When you said that we were through,
Other measures I would ensue.

Alas for me, all time is gone;
Cursed with eternity, my soul to roam,
Nevermore within your arms,
Nevermore to feel your charms,
Nevermore to see the light,
Forever now I pledge my plight.
