From a group of poems written after the two year anniversary of 9/11
Light

I hear the rumble.
I begin to shake.
I realize it's not me.
It's the building.
What's going on?
Please not another plane.
Smoke and debris are everywhere.
Where has everyone gone?
I can hear them.
Why can't I see them?
I trip and stumble.
We feel for each other.
Everyone's here.
We hold hands and walk.
I see a light ahead.
It frightens me.
Is it a worldly light?
Is it the light of God?
We emerge for the rubble.
People stand in awe.
What are they staring at?
Slowly I turn.
I don't believe it.
Where had the tower gone?
It had come down.
Right on top of us.
