Feeling better/worse about yourself by comparison to friends.
Dress to Impress

...

I'm not one to obsess, of course not.

Just because I smile doesn't mean I forgot,

Everything you said underneath your breath.

Joke's on you, I don't dress to impress.

...

I'm worth more than every roll of flab and a subjective body mass.

Go on, you've scrutinized enough, you do the math.

Pimples or dimples, I don't care.

Wrinkles could be in style now for all I'm aware.

...

I'd rather age than not have the chance.

'Ugly' has no definition, it's all about circumstance.

However life wants to shape me, I'll bear whatever scar.

It's up to me whether I let it my happiness be marred.

...

If I wear some mascara or concealer, actually wait for my nails to dry,

I'm not betraying anyone, nor is it something I have to justify.

Ultimately, whatever it may be,

Make no mistake, I'm doing it for me.

...

Let's not lie, you stayed with me to feel superior.

When all it came down to was the fact that you were skinnier.

I felt it, too. Lord knows, I did.

Under a great mop of curls, for years I hid.

...

Confidence is hard, and requires a lot of investment.

I wanted my contentment to be truly independent.

Not based on looks or possessions or people.

My feelings derive from me - it's that simple.

...

That's not to say that others' influence isn't important.

Learn from their opinions, accept support, be tolerant.

...

My friend was the bully whose words were never what they seemed.

Whose compliments weren't flattering in the least.

I don't think she meant to be so spiteful.

But that didn't make it any less hurtful.

...

Everyone has their moments of insecurity.

But please don't stoop to that kind of immaturity.
