Written in the margins of an economics textbook.
and we were slipping away
into formidable silences…

baggage breaking backs
like aging kitchen appliances,

knitting hands together
forged by commendable sciences.

wispy days we wished away
the whips and waves of yesterday,

the lips of praise tripped stiffly stayed;
they lifted me from wintry graves.

raspy ventures rhymed in double time,
a sickly haze.

panic-shook,
we wrote the book on stolen pages.

poured concrete into empty spaces,
tied rabbit ears with fraying laces.

…then slipped away
into formidable silences.
