Dedicated to my lovely cousin, Elizabeth.
She was close to me,

For her I’ll always care.

With a blooming tiger lilly in her hand,

And another in her hair.

Her crystal blue eyes sparkled in the night,

Allowing everyone to see the beauty within sight.

It was never a doubt in my mind,

She could so easily brighten a room.

And it was every time she smiled,

The flower surely continued to bloom.

Her purpose in life was counted as many,

And she never ceased to amaze me.

She sure was beautiful,

Inside and out.

Her voice was in a way soothing,

And her friendliness was never something to doubt.

Her love for her daughter was fervent and strong,

And the need to be there next to her was always prolonged.

She made me feel so grown up and pretty,

I know she wouldn’t want my sympathy or pity.

She taught me that life isn’t always very long,

So instead of memorizing the words,

You should just listen to the song.

I still remember the day when it all came too soon,

The skies were clear and the wind blew.

Teardrops were strewn over faces,

And a numerous amount of flowers were put into vases.

It was then though,

That I remember the most.

Her face was pale, lost,

And looked alone.

Her hands were folded neatly on her lap,

It looked almost as if she was taking a nap.

Her makeup was done,

As well as her hair.

She was dressed in casual clothes,

That’s what she would have wanted to wear.

From then on, it was all bittersweet.

It went from laughing to crying,

To smiling and then sighing.

It was almost anything that could trigger a breakdown,

And all the memories seemed to linger in this town.

Maybe if we were to leave,

All the memories would fade away.

Maybe if we were to go,

The skies wouldn’t look so ugly and grey.

But then I realized,

None of that will matter.

She will always be in our hearts,

And the memories will never shatter.

Yeah- they may start to crumble-

But the best moments of them all,

Are the ones that keep me humble.

And if you listen close enough,

You can hear her wondrous laugh.

Like whispers in the breeze,

As quickly as it comes,

It leaves.

Now I am sure to never forget her,

This is certainly something I know.

And the budding tiger lilly in her hand,

Will forever grow.
