Poetry is meant to speak to the reader, so you tell me.
Elysian Fields

Drifting through Elysian Fields upon a crooked path,
Scattered heaps around me, Life’s twisted aftermath
The complicated clutter of loves and friendships lost
Creates a daunting landscape heedless of human cost

‘Tween ghastly shards of heartbreak, lurk bright remains of joy
In a monument of love, weak moments can destroy
I see broken dreams and hearts, hot tears are shed in pain
Betrayals of truth and love are wretchedly made plain

I wonder while in heaven, about this grief I see
Whether all this misery existed inside me
I see ahead a turning, I squint against the glare
Of hope and love in triumph, of warm and loving care

My heart expands in gladness, my step is skipping light
I view the scene around me, in awed complete delight
The laughter spins around me, in happy swirling streams
A rhapsody of feelings reminds me of my dreams

Then the truth I realize, it suddenly makes sense
I trip down the golden path, no longer scared and tense
I understand the secret, overcome all my denial
Heaven is the sweet reward, my heartbreak was the trial.
