Written for Lexi's Poetry Challenge using her prompt of "Turn The Page"
TURN THE PAGE

The thoughts spin in my head as I look back
on the years I have lived, the fiction and fact.
I should write it all down, the good and the bad,
so that when I am gone, remains all that I had.

Born on a farm to a very large family of ten;
this was not unusual, not away back then.
I was unexpected, I'm sure quite a surprise.
I used to see my parents rolling their eyes.

So I turned the page, the first in my book,
and from time to time, I'd take a quick look.
Mother and Dad were much older but still
they made do and got by, only by sheer will.

My family was always special, I would say.
I have outlived them all, but to this very day
I hoarded all the memories of times gone by,
I turn the page quickly, for it makes me cry.

It's easy to turn the page on my own life,
Best forgotten is the heartache and strife.
So much has happened that can't be told
in one Book of Life, for we all get too old
to...
