How do you tell him “I love you”
When indifference haunts his grey eyes?
How do you tell him you’ll be true
When he’s been told so many lies?
What do you say to him ‘bout love
That you’re glad he’s in your life?
Say that he’s all you can think about
Though his sadness cuts you like a knife?

I’d gladly rip sadness apart,
But it’s wrapped ‘round him, tightly knit.
Am I just one who’ll break his heart,
Or am I the one who’ll mend it?
I reach for him and our eyes meet.
I love him but will he believe?
So I throw down my ace in the hole-
My love, heart, and soul worn on my sleeve.

Ice grey eyes full of nonchalance
Full of disbelief and despair
I fear is his final response
To my attempt to show I care.
My heart, not his, is now breaking
I turn to leave certain he heard
But he throws down his ace in the hole-
My hand caught in his…three whispered words.
