A poem inspired by my recent visit to this location.
City that treasures its glorious past
Harbor where Civil War fighting erupted
A downtown historic district beyond compare
Restored, preserved buildings and houses abound
Legacies from Colonial times and Civil War days
Exquisitely grand houses line The Battery row
Stay overnight in a famous Colonial-era inn
Tour its historic district by horse-drawn carriage
Outside the city antebellum plantations await
Nowhere else in the U.S. saved this much history

Sights draw tourists by the thousands yearly
Coastal marshes, rivers, and beaches delight
