A poem I wrote for a contest.
On My Own

Friends,
We could have been friends,
Everlasting encouragement,
When tragedy seems to never end.
A shoulder to lie on,
Where tears can be shed,
And someone to lead,
When I need to be led.

Through hardships we'd face,
We'll continue to run the race,
Because my friend will be there,
And my friend will show me grace.

But when that door was open,
To accept a new friend,
I closed it shut,
And in the end,
I regret my mistake,
For when I look back to it my heart only breaks

I will never do it again,
For friends are valuable,
And through friendships love is shown,
But now I pay for my mistake,
For I am on my own.
