We were friends before we were lovers.
I Wish You Love

There’s nothing I can say to you
to make you love me more;
there’s no display of wanton lust
to urge your heart to soar.

There was a time you wanted me
from dusk to dawn each day.
What did I do to lose your love
or didn’t do or say?

My future dreams were shattered
the day you walked away,
my hope of having children
and a home with you one day.

I can’t hate you for not loving me
the same way I loved you.
I wish you all the best in life
and a love that will be true.

A lover scorned I’ll always be
the hurt and pain remains,
but then I will remember
the friend you first became.

You were my friend before we loved
before our hearts entwined,
and though we won’t be man and wife
you’re still a friend of mine.
