Sometimes we can find a bit of something in nothing.
Juliet walked down the street
focused on the shadows, always.

Tonight, last year, she saw a band of light,
this flicker of reflection from a streetlamp
flame flash, blind and turn into a bird
It whistled hello, then disappeared
where the light ends.

Who believed this blip could vanish
to the mask of shadow but Juliet,
sees into the other realms always.

This year she sits watching the spot
drenched in pleasure flowing
from her own fingers spread out
and pointed toward the darkness, grinning
under suburban speckled skies
that hides the bird in its stars.
