A poem for the fallen
Cross Pollination

Dancing through the poppy fields
‘midst bodies in the mud
Singing songs of freedom
Dawn’s troubled light, wash out the blood
Blood that stains the memories
Crimson footfalls of our past
Committed sins of demons
Now tread an angel’s path
Through poppies not yet processed
To deal with the pain
The seeds of unsown futures
Abandoned in the rain

Poppies segue to desert lilies
British blood soaks foreign shores
Tired, torn, unwanted weeds
The lessons we’ve ignored
As the poppies in life’s garden
Muted petals in the sun
Fading in our memories
As conflicts rage and battles run
Blood feeding foreign fauna
In barren arid ground
God bless poppies... desert lilies
And pray their peace is found
