Child wants to stay home from school; thought would have snow day, instead fakes sick.
A dusting of snow upon the ground,
Though on the roads, none is to be found.
A grimace upon your face,
As you hoarsely try to plead your case.
"I feel sick," you tell me,
"Can't you see?"
Then list your ailments, one by one,
Until it seems you've all but won.
How convenient for you
Since that paper is due,
And you spent all of yesterday
With seemingly nothing to do but play.
Your temperature is fine,
So I'm afraid I must decline.
Perhaps next time you will do your schoolwork,
Instead of counting on a snow day perk.
"That's not fair," you say,
"Today was supposed to be a snow day."
Never count on the weather, child,
Whether wild or mild,
Nature is ever-changing and never assured,
However, you can be sure that your ruse has not a day off procured.
Let this experience be a lesson, my dear,
As it is perfectly clear,
I am no fool
And you are going to school.
