A short poem for a contest
I feel so cold I just can't get warm,
my bones tell me “get ready for a storm.”
As I look around me, there's ice on everything,
but I do survive for the promise of spring.

Trees are bare as they have been since Fall.
What were the leaves like? I can't recall.
I wait for the sounds of the birds when they sing.
I know in my heart, there's the promise of Spring.

I remember the warmth of the summer sunshine.
A picnic in the park with cheese and wine.
But all of this waits like everything.
As we live each day, for the promise of Spring.
