The struggle to be true to oneself
I fell when you fell,
I broke when you broke,
I did what you did,
I spoke when you spoke.
I was what you were,
I knew what you knew,
I went where you went,
I turned myself into you.
Until the day I woke when you woke,
Except you never woke up.
I was you, but you were gone,
I couldn't stay on top.
I was alone, I barely survived,
Until someone came to the rescue.
They were all so nice and helpful,
Except one that saw me as you.
To him I was a horrid past,
But he didn't know my terrible past,
And so we fought, day after day,
Breaking bones and wearing makeshift casts.
I realized then I was no longer like you,
I was stronger, a fighter, I truly am true.
But I was wrong, now I'm just like him,
The reasons I lose...
I fight like he fights,
I curse like he curses,
I do all that he does,
Our words the same verses.
And so that night,
I slit his throat,
And no longer woke up
When he awoke.
So I can be better, greater, stronger you see,
So I can truly be who is me,
Now there is no more people
Who can be how I be.
