Contest entry for Writer's Cramp group
The tragedy of it is that I never said goodbye;
You left this mortal plain before I had a chance.
A chance to say "I love you", "I'm sorry", "You're the best";
"Don't leave me", "I need you", "Forgive me".

The tragedy of it is that I never had the time;
To kiss you, hold you close, comfort you on your journey.
And the worst is that where you are going
I can not follow, not yet.

I'll never know if you heard the last words
I whispered to you, or the words I scream at you
In the night when I miss you most.
The wish that you'll walk through the door and smile at me just once.

The tragedy of it is that I never said goodbye;
And that I'll miss you, want you, love you
Until we meet in the heavenly realm.
Then I can tell you everything that you'll already know.
