A little ditty I wrote for a friend
CHRISTINE

Mother earth embodied
Angel of the streets
Not ashamed to show her scars
From offerings and defeats;

         Christine, Oh Christine
         You know life is not a dream pristine
         Nor is it black or white
         But something in-between.

Pilgrim out on the road
The road that is less traveled
In an age old timeless story
That often comes unraveled;

         Christine, Oh Christine
         What things you must have seen
         And yet your simple smile
         Is bravely so serene.

The weight of constant struggle
To do all things just right
She carries like an albatross
From morning through the night;

         Christine, Oh Christine
         How do you play this awkward scene?
         Like the Delphi of Athena
         Or a porcelain figurine.

Everyday is just a gamble
The die will cast your fate
What’s the answer or the question?
It’s not open for debate;

         Christine, Oh Christine
         Sister, goddess, woman, queen
         I wish you well in all you do
         And all that comes between.
