Description of my favourite place when I was 12 years old

20 Lines

Sanctuary

The roots are planted on the other side of the fence.

Long, strong limbs reach out over towards my side,

Calling out their embrace welcoming me within.

This is my domain, the place where I can be me.

I reach out for the strong limb,

Pulling myself up, the branches seem glad to feel my weight,

Strength in the loving arms hold me where I want climb.

At first the progress of the climb is slow.

Figuring out the path to my sanctuary,

A place which is mine to escape to be with myself.

I grab each branch as a lifeline,

Pulling myself up, up, and up as high as I dare.

Sitting on nature's throne, watching everything in awe.

I see the neighbour's house far back on his property.

At first I wonder if he will catch me,

Then I reason with myself the branches are mine,

I can feel the breeze on my cheeks,

The air smells and feels much cleaner up here.

Nature is a precious gift to enjoy,

We can all take part if we choose to.

This is where my love of trees began,

I have been in love ever since.
