A freestyle poem on the ever so common belief about how everybody is unique.
We’re not unique
Not in the way everybody thinks at least
No one characteristic makes us special

We think we are the one person who can put words together to make beautiful ideas
Only we can touch people in unimaginable ways through a silver screen
Most of all
We try to convince ourselves that horrible sob stories are exclusive to us
And no one will fully understand

But the cold hard truth is
Everyone has felt life’s cruel touch
It just depends how they carry it with them
Talent isn’t extraordinary anymore
And nobody has a claim on one single ability

People don’t like to believe it
We try so hard no to be
But we are so common

The only thing that makes us unique
Is the fact that all these little things
All the events and talents that we have and call our own
Though so unbelievably ordinary
Added up to make us
And not one other person in this entire world
