Based off a letter my Grandmother wrote to my Grandfather, back In 1969
I picked up a letter from my grandma to grandpa
The summer of 69’ in Vietnam
And all she had to share was love

Dear John, my love
I love you
The kids are well, we’re doing fine
Darling how are you?

She spoke of days in Devonport
Of weekends down at the bluff
She learnt to change a tyre one day
When it punctured on a rock

Dear John, My love
I miss you
The kids are growing so fast these days
Looking more and more like you

She took the kids to the old gum tree
The one John found when he was young
They climbed up high and sat awhile
She wrote, I swear each one wears your lovely smile

Dear John, my love
I’m missing you
Every night when I turn out the lights
I dream that I’m beside you, my love.
