MATERIALS Solid shapes, charts, activity sheets and models
OBJECTIVES Students should be able to;
1.Name solids found in the environment.
2.Classify solids as prisms and pyramids.
PREVIOUS
KNOWLEDGE 1.Students can identify and name polygons of up to
12 sides.
2.Students can identify circles, spheres, cones and
cylinders.
PROCEDURE

INTRODUCTORY
ACTIVITY 1.Teacher will sing the song with tune. “I come a
Zumba, zumba, zya”
Teacher will sing the song once “I come to view
the solids faces”.

2.Students will join the teacher and sing the song
again.{see content page}.

3.Students will recall and name solids found in the
environment.

DEVELOMENTAL
ACTIVITY
-Students will give names of the polygonal shapes of
the faces and base of a solid.
-Students will state the defining property of a prism/ pyramid.
-Students will identify the faces, edges and vertices of a solid.
-Students will classify solids in categories of prisms and pyramids.

CULMINATING
ACTIVITY
-Each group will classify solids in the categories prism and pyramids.
-Students will enter the names of the solids in each category as prism
or pyramid on the activity sheet.
-Activity #2 for assignment.

A polygon is a plane shape with three or more sides.
Triangle (3 sides) nonagon (9 sides)
Quadrilateral (4 sides) decagon (10 sides)
Pentagon (5 sides) undecagon (11 sides)
Hexagon (6 sides) dodecagon (12 sides)
Heptagon (7 sides)
Octagon (8 sides)

A regular polygon is a plane shape with all angles equal and all sides equal.

A polyhedron is a space figure with faces that are polygons.

A right prism is a polyhedron with two parallel bases that are congruent
polygons. Its other faces are rectangles.

A pyramid is a polyhedron with one base. Its other faces are triangles
