Struggling to keep the past alive, (in free verse.)
What more can I do
To replace my fading memories,
Which retreat before the ravages of time?

I close my eyes, but see you just the same,
Dancing down the alley between two lives,
Bringing with you all the joy and pain,
Glittering shards tumbling up from the depths,
Fragments of a life so short yet endless,
A dream lived by two hearts and two minds.

The scents of gardenias and morning fog,
The song of a mockingbird calling across the fields,
A parody of your voice as you laugh,
In conversations fading from my ears,
The gentle breeze lifts your auburn hair,
For me to see your eyes glitter with mirth
Before you duck behind the camera and click again.

Stand together with me before the lens,
And be captured in bright colors and soft shadows,
Kissed by radiant sun and caressed by wind.

Hold my hand before the shutter clicks
Your lips brush mine as gently as the light
Embraces us like a pair of angels.

Leave me a memory before you go,
And stay with me forever as I fade
In blissful slumber with you at my side,
Standing on my dresser by my bed.

Leave me a picture,
And leave me, for I can no longer walk our path.

I am frozen in the past with you.
