An edgy poem about corruption and the air we breathe.
The Invisible Dragon

Something lurks beyond vision,
Disclosing only a wisp of...?
Black steam?
Chemical fumes?
The breath of an invisible dragon?

What is it that flits just outside our vision?
Like a thin film inside our nostrils,
Something was there...is there...

Or was it?

Comfort is always being in control,
How much of that is illusion?
What about the dark side,
The shadow away from the light,
The sunless side of the moon,
Never seen, never revealed to the admiring eyes of the Harvest Moon,
The Once in a Blue Moon,
The delicate New Moon?

We choose not to look in those dark corners,
It’s easier to pretend prettily
Emptiness in sunlit corridors,
That we are in control.

Are we?

Blinding light gleams with riot gear in swarms of swat clubbed,
Deep into wounds of despair,
Glorious result blanked in an instant of futility.
We are remorse with guilt,
Unknown by our fathers who believed in pure and innocent gain,
And overwhelming labor for a reward of satisfaction.

Wasted,
What a waste,
A never ending carrion of hatred,
Regulated to uniformed simplicity,
Slogans of self-pride,
Weak arguments for the desperate grinding of soul’s anguish.

We live in mortal fear of admission.

Better to believe in fragments of what...?
Black steam?
Chemical fumes?
The breath of an invisible dragon?
