Contest entry. How to move on after a break-up.
We’ll end where we began:
Strangers meeting for coffee
Unsure, unwise
Unconcerned
With no expectations
With no hopes, no promises
And accidental meetings are only accidents
Not fate
Not destiny
Not anticipation of something more

We’ll end where we began:
Not friends, not acquaintances
But just two people passing by
In the narrative of our lives
Without anger
Without acrimony
Where love does not await
And hate is not yet commonplace

We’ll end where we began:
Foreigners in each other’s homelands
Innocent and ignorant
Unhurt and undamaged
Without memory or souvenir
Before truths were shared
And lies were told

Yes, we’ll end where we began:
As undiscovered lovers
On different paths to new unknowns.
