Alone, what a terrible place to be. A child and a flower find a way, at least for now.

Alone
In a tower
There is
A flower
By itself
In a vase
There
In the shade
Never does
The sun touch
Only
Acute light
Has it known
But it’s alive
Quite
Far more
Than most
Far more
Than any flower
In any field
Upon God’s
Green earth
Its petals
Snow white
Its stem
Thick and green
Its bud
Continually
Does it bloom
The center
Vibrant red
Brighter
Than blood
Deeper
Than the sky
Alone
In a tower
There is
A child
Grotesquely
Deformed
Continually
Bed ridden
A hapless
Helpless being
That can
Without question
Do nothing
For herself
Alone
In a tower
She is locked
Placed away
Kept from all else
Seemingly ashamed
Are those
The creators
Of her existence
Thus the masters
And stewards
Of her plight
As cruel
As it sounds
As kind
As it
Would have been
They should have
Just killed her
Thrown her
From some ledge
Left her
For the wolves
Slit her throat
From ear to ear
They should have done
Any one of them
Right then and there
Upon her birth
Upon the confirmation
That she was so broken
Way beyond repairable
They should have done it
At that brief point
When she was closest
To redeemability
All children
Are born innocent
So the shorter
After being born
The better
Alone
In a tower
Dare it be pondered
Who gave that child
That lone flower
The one
So perfectly beautiful
The one
That against all odds
Is alive and thriving
Such a mystery
Of who placed it there
Within the cascading shade
All the while
Knowingly betraying
The needs required
Is vastly more unnerving
How does it
Continue to live
How can it survive
Acute is the light
It receives no water
All things essential
All things desired
Are not present
How could it be
Why has it not
Wilted and died
Returning to the dirt
From which it came
Alone
In a tower
There is a flower
And near that flower
There is a child
Both it seems
At least to me
Are where they belong
Either has
Any real chance
At escaping
But day in
And day out
Both manage
To further survive
Onward they press
Helping each other
Via splendid beauty
And deafening tragedy
Via contentment
And a blistering reality
I often wonder if
There will ever be a time
A point where when one
Succumbs to what it needs
Will the other
Follow close behind
Or will it remain
Still very much alive
Alone
In a tower
There is a flower
And there is a child
Both have little light
Both face greater darkness
But regardless of that
They are both surviving
The hand they’ve been dealt
If such a predicament
If such an achievement
Does not make you believe
That there is a God
And that his dominion
Over life remains divine
Then I fear little else
Will or could…
