A poem about the tragedy of war throughout time and literature
As I lay dying into that good sleep
I'm every son and father on Flander's field
My heart doth protest, my soul not a peep
I'm every squire upon his knights shield

So it goes, I've become unstuck in time
Death tolls the bell that tolls for me
Gas gas, the ghastly smell of lime
Eternal vigilance? today I've paid that fee

But I too, have seen some wish to die
Leading the charge with my Cap'n in the rear
Dead boys is as American as greed and pie
Sleep Johnny there is no more fear

I must go into the good night
For we both know which God is right
