...it is waiting...just ahead. Come closer.
SOME DEVIL (18 lines)

some devil, incarnate,
smooth skin,
or something very like it,
pulling back from
its diseased smile

its wizened arm,
like a dead branch
from an uprooted tree,
reaching, in vain,
toward he-who-is-next

its fingers, flexing open and closed,
the cramp that will not go away

the line is sluggish,
the ancient clerk,
some devil,
certainly,
the DMV,
some hell.
