An account of a dawning day.
Sunlight sifts through my window.
Birds fly from oak tree branches.
Tire treads roll on warped asphalt,
splashing through pockets of puddles
leftover from last night’s storm.

The scent of waffles waft in the air,
mingling with the calling coffee.
Sleep’s hovering haze fades from my mind.

My drowsiness drifts away.
A chill in the air grazes my skin.
Goosebumps break out on my arms.

Welcomed warmth vanishes quickly,
as embers of lingering dreams die down.
Once asleep, I now lie awake,
aware of a new day’s dawn.
