A poem for friends who have lost their way
The Friendship Tree

We planted seeds of friendship,
and tended to them well.
Our tree grew out of happiness,
and sometimes out of hell.

Yet, we sat beneath our creation,
protected from the rain.
We were safe and warm,
despite the storm,
shielded from our pain.

But our tree grew old and weary,
we nursed it best we could.
We watched her crack,
and break
and bend
'till scars ariled her wood.

We hoped there were some way to fix her,
some way to cure our dying tree.
But there are times,
despite our pride,
it's best to let things be.

So, we left our tree for better things,
such as life, 'twas our cross to bear.
We moved on,
grew up
forgot
Our tree grew wild in disrepair.

But deep within her tired trunk,
beneath the dirt,
and beneath the weeds.
There still lies a root, and within that root,
a pale and shining seed.

So, when you're feeling lost and beaten,
please listen close to me.
I'll be waiting for you,
always here,
beneath our friendship tree.
