...but it is not what I have become
You were not sure what you wanted
when you chose to give me life
You hoped I would be healthy and happy
You imagined me tinkering in your footsteps
You did your best to teach me right from wrong
and you fought mental devils to save my soul

You were not sure what you wanted,
but it is not what I have become
Where I believe I am strong, you believe me foolish
Where I believe I am good, you believe me weak
Where I believe I grow, you believe I fall deeper

You wrestle with your worry
But can you see how it feels like
a rejection of all I am?
And just as you worry for me,
did you know I worry for you?
Neither of us can give,
and agree to disagree is not enough
We see through such different eyes
that to gaze on each other is pain
Love does not conquer all,
for love cannot overcome its own pain
Only by lies can that pain be skirted
and I am weary of pretend
