Winter Cup
Making Do

Michigan handprint during colder times-
Mid-mitten in Brighton: Refuse Hill.
Flatlanders, trolls watch snow machines,
ride gondolas for fifteen-second runs.
Slalom has but three flags.

Moguls made over summer sand
bunkers. Expert run transverses the
thirteenth tee. Fairways become cross-country
trails. Milk runs are magic:
best run of the day.

January Festival melds the two:
Skolf. Driver hits blood red
balls, skiers schuss to par.
No putter, ski poles only.
Nineteenth hole: Hot Chocolate heaven.

Lived once in McKinley’s shadow,
sunset slings blood red arrows.
Glaciers crack night silence. Wolves
sing ancient songs to the
Great One. I miss Denali.
