My Horror stories 500 words and under.
A fellow writer and friend of mine once challenged me to write horror stories of no more than 500 words. I took to it like a hatchet to a zombie's skull. I wrote story after story, and came to realize how much limiting my word count really pushed my writing. At one point I took a 1200 word rough draft and reduced it to 500. You should try it sometime, it really helps you to clear away the dross and get down to the bare bones of the story.
