A free verse poem about my marriage
Blue eyes staring at me, smiling
Full of love, I recognize it,
I haven’t seen it for a long time,
I return the love filled smile as
I recognize hope for us in
The beauty of his blue eyes.
Two seconds go by with his smile
Not wavering and I feel loved.
Then his eyes drop to mine the love
Gone forever … It wasn’t mine.
The lady behind me, it’s hers.
Betrayal rips my heart, shears hope.
Love forever? No, love is a
Fleeting of the heart until he knows the
Authentic me, knows nothing.
It’s too late though, the ring is on
The weight gain welds it into place.
Betrayed in so many ways, not
What I deserve. Now it is my
Turn to love me enough to save
Me from the blue eyed betrayal.
