how I'd spend time, if I could
if everyone left me
to my own devices,
and I could map a formula
for a perfect day,

when I woke,
I’d not bother to dress
(clothes are for company).
I’d curl in my sweats
under a blanket pile,
with a book stack waiting to be read,

and I’d devour them,
(no food today, no calculations
or blood sugar testings)
until my mind filled with
characters cavorting across
my mind’s stage, Tiffany Aching
crossing wits with Miles Vorkosigan,
Amelia Peabody’s parasol
dancing with Sherlock Holmes’ violin,
until my mind was full
and passed into dreaming,

and to clear my head
I’d screw my eyes shut,
so tight that a kaleidoscope
spilled color on my eyelid’s,
and I’d follow the greens
and yellows and reds
until the changing
hypnotized me into sleep again,
my day complete.
