what I felt today
knocking on a door
after seven hours on the road,
a hurricane hits me,
in three variations:
the soon to be nine-year-old
hugs me, and presents me
with a dragon she painted herself.
the six-year-old knocks me over
with his enthusiasm,
and heads back to the tv,
the lure of an auntie nothing
when transformers are saving the earth.
and the two-year-old
cuddles for a moment,
then shares his cars with my leg,
roaring and screaming in turn
as they smash each other
off the cliff to the floor,
and I finally relax,
off the road, fed, and happy.
