let me not walk blind
sun in the eyes,
I told my parents,
wincing away from the bright
and into the cool peace
of shadow,
where I stayed
so I could see.

it’s the edges.
it’s the intrinsic qualities
of the extremes
which blind me.

sun shining down
and reflecting off the sand,
turning the world white
as a snowstorm.

night falling deep
in the depths
of a cave, where denizens
grow oddly, untouched
by even a reflection
of a glow.

let me dance
in and out of shadow.
let me live in sight.
