A tribute to a departed friend
Goodbye my secret love

My beautiful friend,
To whom these lines are penned
You meant the world to me
But my love you couldn’t see
I knew you didn’t feel the same
So I played a waiting game
To know you was a lovely thing
Your presence made my heart sing
It was enough to have you near
To try for more could have cost me dear
Better to have you as just a friend
Than to see that friendship end
As the years flew
I saw less of you
Until that terrible day
You slipped away
When the news was spoken
My heart was broken
I said I’m sorry to hear it
Sorry? The word conveyed not a little bit
Of what I felt inside
A part of me had died
And I am left to weep
But secret memories are mine to keep.
