Poem expressing friendship not judgement
Don't judge
By Julie Gasior
Jan. 27, 2016

Don't judge me because of how I look.

Don't think you know how I feel.

Don't think who I am can be boxed into your narrow thinking.

Don't think I'm unlovable because I am fat.

Don't think I'm scary because my skin is a different color.

Don't think I am stupid because I learn and see the world differently than you.

Don't think I'm a freak because I don't want to shake your hand.

Don't think there is something wrong with me because I am different than you.

Instead of projecting your fears and judgments...

Shower me with love and sympathy.

Maybe I've had a tough go of it.

Maybe I'm having a frustrating day.

Maybe I'm a kind soul and your judgments brought up my defenses.

Maybe you have no idea what it feels like to live in my life.

Maybe you have no idea what happened to me.

Maybe it's time to open your mind and allow others to be who they are.

And then maybe you can see I am open to allow you to be who you are.

Maybe we could be friends...if only for a moment.
