A poetic journey through my life so far.
Cocoon of Insecurity

A young boy sits underneath the shade of an old oak tree
looking out at the vast sea of smiling faces and joyful
laughter. With a yearning to be a part of that society he
sits alone concealed within a cocoon created from the
restraint of insecurity he suffers from. Although he makes
friends through his young life, he remains drowning in the
abyss of trepidation. He decides to keep the voice of his heart
hidden deep inside his cocoon of solitude.

That young boy was me.

A teen fifteen years age enters the world of high school
to prepare for what life has to offer him, yet he still hides
in his cocoon of insecurity. During his teenage life his
grades are good and a crack starts to form along the outer
layer of his thick shell as his once silent voice starts to
resonate softly from his soul. Progressively he begins to
walk into that sea of smiling faces and joyful laughter for
which he yearned to join when he was young.

That teen of fifteen years was me.

A young man who has graduated from the life of high school
into a world of reality begins his path of self-discovery. With
a chance to continue his education and walk the road of higher
education in the form of a scholarship, he willingly declines the
opportunity. The choice is made when he learns of a loved one
is stricken with the mental illness of dementia and he decides to
become the caretaker of his grandmother. He feels this is the right
decision, because he does not want to experience the feeling of
putting her in a nursing home.

That young man is me.

The cocoon which has concealed the voice of this young man
starts to open as he discovers the gift of poetry. A gift given to
him from his creator, he takes his heart and pours it onto paper
through his pen. The abyss of trepidation that once engulfed his
soul succumbs to the light of empowerment he gains from writing.
Poetry allows him to break free from his cocoon of insecurity and
the voice of his heart is heard by those who travel along the words of his
craft. As he travels along this path, he discovers he is a young man
of unconditional love for his family and a young man who yearns for his
voice to be heard one day by the world through his gift of poetry. He
discovers that he is a poet.

That poet is me.
