A poem I wrote as a tribute to the film "Edward Scissorhands". .
It was in one place where even light had never yet traveled
Edward sat, staring down at his hands as his mind unraveled.
His face may have been battered, but it was his mind with the scar -
How close he had been to the others out there; how close, but how far!
How peaceful he now felt with his windows and doors all boarded and shut,
He thought his hands were sharp, but knew now it was his heart that could cut.
"My feelings betrayed me!" He cried. He screamed, and tore down a picture of a girl -
A picture of happy times. The snow, the moon. The way she would dance and twirl -
A girl he once knew, but whose name he could no longer remember.
There was a time he kept her in his heart, like a spark or a last dying ember;
Now, everything was dark. Black. The flame in his heart had finally went cold,
As he sat up alone in his mansion, while the world around him slowly turned old.*
In the years coming, how many more girls would there be? How many more flames?
How many more pictures destroyed? Would he have to forget any more names?
