about an adoption that fell through
Your playful laugh
and woeful sobs
I may never hear,
but tonight your voice
whispers softly in my heart.

Your miniature hands
and soft cheeks
may never brush with mine,
but surely as the thick darkness
of this midnight surrounds me,
the warm arms of my love
surround you.

Your shining eyes,
like blackest onyx,
may never peer into
mine of steely blue,
but the soul that rests
behind those eyes
still reaches out and touches me
as if you were in my room.

I know not your name,
your looks,
your dreams,
nor your fears,
and I may never learn them.

Yet bound to you
I cannot help but feel-
your unestablished sister.
