an apology to my mother
Perpetual apologies,
echoed across a chasm that
surrounds a river of tears.
Lost in the winds of arguement
and frustration.

The chasm widens.
Blasted repeatedly
with dynamite of anger,
worn away with the forces of
mistakes and thoughtless words.

This is not the topography that
God intended for our relationship.

Sadly, being who I am,
I find it simpler
to buy the supplies for demolition
than to invest in materials
for constructing a bridge.

Fortunately, help is coming.
I have prayed for basic skills
in civil engineering.
As I get older I know
explosives will be harder
to obtain.

Meanwhile, wear a hard hat
and be assured that I will
more loudly shout the
perpetual apologies....
and fix my taste in landscaping.
