Today, things are different for Martin Hedges.

Well he wakes up in the morning
and he rises like a shot.
As he dresses for the office
he waits for the coffee pot.
And it gurgles as it percolates
that tasty coconut cream.
He ran out of four-cup filters
but Scott Towels became regime.
He’s awaiting Mister Coffee
to announce with final gurgle
that it’s ready.

Martin Hedges tugs his Ascot
and he thumbs his glasses too.
He sits ready with saliva
as he hears the coffee brew.
Yet there seems to be a lot of steam
as the gurgle gets intense.
Humble Martin isn’t ready
for the coffee consequence.
He’s amazed how Mister Coffee
blows its top and sprays the java
on the ceiling.

Doesn’t matter that he had a
presentation for today.
Martin Hedges phones the office
saying there will be delay.
For the java dripped upon his suit
and in his thinning hair.
Things will be a little varied,
so today I won’t be there
.
He sheaths his cell quite gingerly
and soon relents to Earl Gray tea
with honey.
