Addiction can turn those we love into strangers. This is about the man I married.
The stars have changed,
Yet I still face the day.
Solace in pretty pictures and smiling faces,
Yet, still, when silence pervades,
All is swallowed by a great chasm of fear and sorrow.
Death has occurred,
Though there will be no funeral –
Still, I shall mourn.
You stifled your light,
Gunned down by demons only you can overcome.
A stranger stares out through your eyes,
Dark, menacing, angry,
Yet emotionless.
An innocent marred at your hands,
Broken hearts, broken home,
Broken life;
A familiar stranger I have known.
