I've been down the road of regret and sorrow
I've been down the road of
regret and sorrow.
It's littered with tantalizing glass,
sharp metal, and unanswered promises.

Remnants of my prints are seared
into the ground, leaving behind
charred remains as black as my
deepest, darkest emotions.

Monstrous, howling, tornadic wind
vacuum and twist my insides.
Leaving them to fall into a bubbling,
broiling, puddle surrounding my feet.

But my outside which shelters them
shows not a solitary mark.
It's wrapped in plastic --
stoic, unchanging.
Like z o m b i e s
at the wax museum.

A plastered smile, unflinching eyes,
Have a great day. But do
step over the liquid of black molasses
oozing and hovering around my feet.
