I'm posting this for my son, who wrote it as a high school senior.

Promises

I will love you as winter loves its cold parade

As the righteous love their bold charade

As anguish loves its miserable crusade


I will love you as tired eyelids love to close

As the lifeless love their deathly pose

As frosted coffins love the beaks of crows


I will love you as dirt loves the stones of the past

As shivering cracks love to splinter the mast

As the worst loves to visit the last
